While everyone is going to be different and you should always consult with your doctor before you begin performing any type of exercise when you are having back problems. I can only tell you what I did to relieve my pain; what works for me may or may not work for you.

Stretching: One of the main reasons that you may be suffering from a trapped nerve; it is because your muscles are tight and you do not stretch them enough. I was told by massage therapist to place emphasis during the day to stretch as often as possible.

I found myself holding onto the door frame of the bedroom door and trying to stretch my arms as far as I could. Of course you do not want to injure yourself more; so you will want to stop stretching when you feel more pain than the relief of the stretch.

Massaging: Another thing that I found great for relief from this pain was to massage the muscle that is trapped. You will notice that as you begin to massage the sore area your body will begin to feel better.

This is what I did; I focused on stretching my muscles and massaging the painful area. Of course you do not want to get away from ice and heat as a way to bring relief. As long as you continue doing this to get rid of the pain; you will begin to notice that you will feel better over time.
